Copenhagen, 7-8 Nov 2024

“Interventions,” the third Nordic Fabulation Network workshop, will take place at the IT University of Copenhagen November 7th and 8th, assembling nearly 30 researchers to further refine and develop fabulation as a mode of designing futures, paying special attention to how fabulation might be made more relevant to the “real” world. See the participant list here.

We are very excited to have the Un/Making studio—Senior Lecturers Åsa Ståhl from Linneaus University and Kristina Lindström from Malmö University—as keynote speakers, presenting their own design examples to reflect on how imaginaries drive design practices.

Starting from current notions of care and nordic values developed from the Umeå workshop, and building on the processual findings from the Olso workshop, the first day of this workshop we will explore the possibilities of Fabulation to address real-world scenarios of future care in the Nordics. A number of methods from HCI and interaction design research will be used for supporting the developing of the fabulations at different stages, including first-person perspective reflections, and low-fidelity prototypes for supporting reflection and driving future narratives.

On the second day, we will refine the fabulations and show them at ITU’s Air Lab. By developing fabulations collaboratively through narrative and illustration techniques, we will test the generativity and potential of this method for imagining alternative futures of care, while also reflecting on its limitations.
