The second fabulation workshop “Approaches” will take place at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design on January 25th and 26, and will bring together 27 researchers to drive fabulation as a mode of designing futures. See the participant list here.
We are very excited to have Associate Professor Camilla Mørk Røstvik from the University of Agder (NO) as a keynote speaker. Camilla will give a talk on “Remembering Witches: Memorials, Memory and Magic in Public Space” to frame fabulating.
Starting from current notions of care and nordic values developed from the Umeå workshop, on the first day of this workshop we will explore the possibilities of Fabulation as a generative mode of making new connections between actors and technologies. A number of methods from HCI and interaction design research will be used for supporting the developing of the fabulations at different stages, including first-person perspective reflections, and lo-fidelity prototypes for supporting reflection. Beyond sharing approaches and methods for facilitating theprocess of fabulating, participants in the workshop will learn from one-another.
On the second day, we will refine the fabulations and show them at AHO. By developing fabulations collaboratively through narrative and illustration techniques, we will test the generativity and potential of this method for imagining alternative futures of care, while also reflecting on its limitations. This section of the workshop will be open and inclusive, allowing for outside participants, such as family members of participants, to be involved.
